After the Abitur, professional dance and pedagogy education in Erlangen/ Germany. Afterwards, stage dance education with diploma at the Academie Danse Classique (Solange Golovine), Studios Peter Goss and Theater de la Danse (Martine Harmel) with scholar ship in Paris

He danced as soloist among others for Paula Lansley/ Contemporary Dance Zurich, Richard Wherlock/ Ballett-Theater Hagen & Luzerne Ballett, Artnocorps (Zurich), Movers (Zurich), etc. He started in 1995 with his own ensemble LOOPING contemporary dance company in Zurich. LOOPING successfully completed until 1999 many nationals as well as international tours. From 1999 until 2007, Jochen Heckmann was ballet director and main choreographer at BallettTheater-Augsburg. From 2007 until 2013, he worked as a freelanced artist and became “artist in residence“ at TheaterInKempten(D) from 2007 to 2011. He has been teaching for many years as pedagogue contemporary dance and choreography in divers educational dance programs (for example at ZhdK Zurich Dance Academy, Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance Munich, Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln). He is giving training for many freelanced and fixed dance companies as well as master classes in whole Europe. In 2008, he took over the artistic direction of the renowned 12th international choreography course (SiWiC) in Zurich.

As a choreographer, he developed with his own dance ensembles and as guest over 40 dance productions for a whole evening and many other average to small creations. He was working among other countries in Portugal, England, Denmark, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Austria and in many German theatres as guest choreographer. Additionally, he worked with the director Christof Loy for the renowned Glyndebourne opera festival in Great Britain and for the Salzburg festival in Austria. He has been priced several-times for his knowledge in dance and choreography in Germany, Japan, Denmark, Switzerland and Czech Republic.
